Wow. It’s been a long, interesting year for me and I am not sad to see it go. As far as beauty products are concerned, it’s been a good year. YSL’s Glossy Stains and Estee Lauder’s blushes are gems in a shiny box; Urban Decay reformulated shadows were much appreciated. I don’t blog about every beauty product I try (although that may change for 2013). I like to use my annual roundup to briefly discuss some of the other great things I’ve come across…some were new in 2012, while others were just new to me.
Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoo Cream Shadow
When looking over my old posts, I was surprised that I didn’t blog about these. By the time I purchased them, they had been out a while and were ‘old news’ among beauty lovers. These wonderful potted cream shadows are true to color, pigmented, lasts all day (though 24 hours is a stretch) and do not crease. My favorite is the bronze shade, which is great as a wash of color and the bright orange as it is a matte finish and is a great base for peach shadows. The purple shade is the weakest of the ones I’ve tried as it is a bit patchy. The quality of drugstore products have really improved over the past couple of years and these shadows are definitely leading the pack. On your next trip to your local Walgreen’s, CVS, Target or Walmart, don’t walk out without picking one of these up ($5-7). Swatches can be found in The Swatch Bin. ***Look out for five new Metal shades coming soon.
Clinique Chubby Stick
I love a good lip balm. No, scratch that. I NEED a good lip balm. Since I was a kid, I had been putting some kind of mineral oil/petrolatum-based (aka Vaseline) balm on my lips that single-handedly destroyed my lips natural ability to moisturize itself. So, I’m always intrigued when I come across a balm that do not contain this skin peeling ingredient and Clinique’s Chubby Stick Lip Colour Balm is on one of them. I only have one of these and I always have to resist the urge to buy more when I walk past a Clinique counter ($16). They really are moisturizing. The pigmentation of the product depends on the shade you get. Even on my dark lips, this chocolate shade shows up nicely.
