I was slow to come around to Laura Mercier products, but I’ve come to really enjoy her lip products, primarily the Crème Smooth Lip Color. I haven’t met a dud yet. They are typically great in pigmentation and comfortable to wear despite the finish. These new lip colors are no exception, but I do have a gripe. More on that later.
The Velour Lovers line is supposed to give lips vibrant, high impact color with a matte finish and moisturizing benefits. It has mattifying powders with mango butter that creates a smooth texture. The formula is buildable and offers medium to high coverage with a matte and sateen finish. It is free of sulfates, talc and silicone.
My issue with this particular line contains less product than my favorite Crème Smooth line, but cost the same. The packaging of the Velour Lovers makes it appear considerably smaller, but it has 0.12oz for $28, while the Crème Smooth has 0.14oz for the same price.
Cocoa Pout – is a dark warm chocolate brown with buildable coverage. This shade has some slip during application, but the finish sets matte. I needed more than one pass to get the coverage I wanted. I find it comfortable to wear.
Seduction – is a dark pink/berry. It is very matte with a drier texture than Cocoa Pout and has great pay off. A lip pencil or a lip brush for application would be helpful for this color given the pigmentation. I personally need a lip balm underneath to make this shade comfortable, but I wear lip balm under everything except for tinted lip balm.
Voyeur – is cool, dark purple. This has a similar texture as Cocoa Pout as far as the slip, but it doesn’t impact the good color payoff.
