Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal

I finally got my hands on these little gems.  The new addition to the Maybelline Tattoo line came out several weeks ago, but they are new to my neck of the woods.  I believe these shades will be made permanent.  I’ve purchased some of their limited edition shades and they were labeled as such.  These are not.  So, there is no need to rush out and buy them…like I did.

I think the ‘Metal’ label is misleading.  The only shades that have a true metallic finish are the gold and silver shades.  The other shades have a high shine/sheen finish.  These shades have the same long-lasting, non-creasing formula as the others in the permanent line.  I primarily use this product as an eyeshadow base, but the lighter shades are great as a wash of color.  The only shade that doesn’t go on as smooth is Gold Rush.  It went on a little patchy and didn’t have the smooth finish as the other four.  I suggest applying Gold Rush with your finger and stamping it on versus brushing it on.

Barely Branded #70 is pale golden peach.  It is goes on smoothly and has great pigmentation.  On light complexions, this shade would be a great wash of color.  Inked in Pink #55 is a rose-pink with cool undertones.  It looks a lot darker in the pot than it swatches, which is a shame.  I was looking forward to the darker tone.  Gold Rush #65 is a true yellow gold.  It doesn’t have any green undertones like some gold shades tend to have.  It has a metallic finish and is intensely bright.  Electric Blue #75 is a lovely dark navy blue with great pigmentation.  This shade is the least metallic out of the set.  If you’re looking for a metallic dark blue, you’re going to be disappointed.  Silver Strike #60 is a very smooth and pigmented silver with a blue undertone.

I get better color payoff with creamy products when it’s applied with my finger.  You can also use a synthetic brush, but I would use more of a tapping motion versus smoothing/sweeping it on.

These retail for $6.99 (prices may vary) for 4g of product and are available at Ulta, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, Target and Maybelline.com.
