The ‘IT’ List: NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

What is ‘The IT List’?  It is a short list of makeup or makeup related items that I have found to be the best of the best (at least for my needs anyway).  It would take a mighty nice product to knock these products off the pedestal I’ve put them on.

Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base is the best primer I’ve used that can fight my oily eye lids and keep my shadow crease free all day.  It really is a great product.  My eye makeup has lasted all day including countless sweaty workouts after work (yes I’m too lazy to remove my eye makeup, not face makeup though).

I used to be a diehard Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP) fan.  I had just bought a large tube of UDPP when I received a free sample of Nars and I never looked back.  The one negative I have against Urban Decay’s primer is that it is very difficult to blend shadows over it.  I always had to apply either a Mac Paint Pot or skin tone shadow all over my lid before starting my makeup.  With Nars, I can skip that step entirely.

The tube contains 0.24oz of product for $24.  Compared to Urban Decay Primer Potion, you get 0.37oz for $19.  It may seem like Urban Decay is the better deal, but not when you have to use/buy additional products to use it effectively.  (I’ve heard the formula for UDPP has changed and not for the better.)  One tube of Nars lasted me about 8 months.  TIP:  The trick to getting every bit of Nars product out of the tube is to remove the plastic stopper.

I typically don’t use Nars’ primer for blog updates.  Why waste my go-to product when I know I’m going to wash it off right after?  Especially, since I have plenty of UDPP left to use up.  To save a little bit of dough, I stocked up on Nars during Sephora Friends and Family sale, which is typically in October.  For those who can’t wait, Nars is currently having a 20% of sale (ending 8/21/11; code NEWNARS) plus free shipping!
