My wedding planning started me down the path to a full-fledged make up addiction long before I said “I do”. This look is a recreation of the eye makeup I did for my wedding day. It isn’t an exact recreation as I didn’t have some of the products used for this post, but it is pretty close.

After smoothing on Primer Potion, I blended two bases on my lid. Painterly was used on my lower lid to the crease and Groundwork was used from the crease to my brow. Using a Mac 217, I blended Swiss Chocolate into my crease and blended it up lightly to my brow. I darkened my crease by mixing Handwritten and Embark together, concentrating the color on the outer corner. On the actual day, I defined by Outer V more. I didn’t do that in this post for whatever reason.
Using a Mac 239, I packed on Vanilla onto the lower part of my lid, using my natural skin fold as a guide. Using the other side of the 239, I patted on Rule above the Vanilla and blended it into the crease color. I repeated this process until I got the intensity of the cream shade I wanted and until the two colors faded into each other.
For my wedding, I chose to use a shadow as a liner for a softer look. I used Mac’s Carbon on that day, but I now know there are better matte blacks available. For this post, I chose Urban Decay’s Blackout (part of the 15th Anniversary palette) with a Sigma 266 brush.
I didn’t wear false lashes on that day. A good tip I read during my research is wear what your fiancé is used to seeing. I didn’t want to scare him and walk out with Tammy Faye lashes. Other wedding tips I learned (and can remember):
- Use no (or very little) SPF products.
- Try a lip stain versus heavy gloss or lipstick.
- If you have oily skin, a silicone-based foundation will not be your friend. Silicone will make it worse (something I learned after the fact).
- If you’re doing your own makeup…practice, practice, practice.
- Limit your use of shimmery products as it will reflect off of the camera’s flash.
- Matte shadows work best and keeps the look timeless.
