MAC Bloggers’ Obsession

My MAC Bloggers’ Obsession arrived in the mail much sooner than I expected!  All of the items featured were created by nine fellow makeup bloggers.  The bloggers were not compensated for their creative efforts.  The limited edition collection will be available for sale for six weeks, but some items are already sold out.  Hopefully, MAC will replenish its stock soonAs of 6/29:  MAC took pity on us and will replenish the stock of the sold-out items.  Thanks MAC!!  The collection features four eye shadows and five lip glosses (lipglass formula).

Unfortunately, the glosses grabbed me more than the eye shadows.  I don’t know why, but I expected the shadows to have more oomph.  I have to keep in mind that not everybody likes bright colors on their eyes like me.  The shades are pigmented, which is a good thing.  This post includes swatches of the glosses I picked up too (first time for everything).

The collection also includes two other lip glosses that I did not purchase (an opaque blue-based red and a very sheer pale shimmery pink).  Looks featuring these new eye shadows are coming soon.  Until then, enjoy pictures.

Shadows

Hocus Pocus (satin finish) is a muted gray with silver and gold sparkle and has a very smooth texture.  This color was the shade I gambled on.  Grays are a no-no for me and my warm-toned skin.  The gold sparkle warms this color up and makes it more wearable for me.  The blogger wanted to create a neutral, easy smoky-eye shadow.  I think my warm skin turns this shade ever so slightly olive green.

Jealousy Wakes (veluxe pearl finish) is a bright green with teal blue sparkle.  The texture was bit gritty feeling, but the pigmentation is nice.  The sparkle makes this shade reflects blue when the light hits it, which is a nice touch.  The initial swatch of this color on my hand was definitely blue.  The green came alive in the second passing.

Sparkle Neely, Sparkle! (velvet finish) is reddish-brown with a lot of pale gold sparkle.  Depending on the angle, this shadow looks like it could glow in the dark.  That is why I took two pictures of this color.  Thankfully, the shimmer is much tamer when swatched, but it looks like the sparkle could create major fall out problems when applied to the eye.  The sparkle is so fine it may not brush away very easily.  I also found the reddish-brown color got increasingly rusty looking the more the color was built up.

Parisian Skies (satin finish) is a muted gray-blue with slight blue shimmer.  The texture is very smooth.  I was a bit worried about this shade too because of the gray factor, but the blue shimmer makes this shade subtle and pretty.

Glosses

Sorry, no lip swatches for me.  My lips are too heavily pigmented to provide a fair representation of any lip product.  MAC lipglasses are sticky, but I always wear a lip balm underneath and that cuts down on the stickiness.

Sonoran Rain is a red-orange with gold and silver sparkle.  I’ve finally accepted I can’t wear blue reds, though my eyes are more attracted to them.  I wore this shade today and I loved it.

Caqui is an orange that leans slightly red.  Unfortunately, it’s a bit too sheer for my very pigmented lips, but I still like it.  I’ve been falling quite hard for coral and orange lip colors lately.

All of My Purple Life is reddish purple with shimmer.  I almost didn’t get this color, but I’m glad I did.  It can be a bit much for light complexions, but for deeper skin tones, it’s surprisingly lovely.  If you’re a Prince fan, you know the song that gave this gloss its name.

Swatches done on bare skin (NC45).
